950 South Capitol St is a large, 14-story office building with stonework on the exterior and interior. The interior included a large marble floor and an elliptical marble-clad column. The exterior facade of the building features massive granite column piers all around, from the ground floor up to the penthouse level. Each of the columns was made of granite of various thicknesses ranging from 1-1/2″ to 3″, pre-assembled in the factory to form an “H” shape in section. Although made using multiple pieces, the assembly was designed so that the final column appears monolithic.
