The Maryland WWII memorial was a tremendously collaborative experience that took place in the early years of Rugo Stone. The Ownership team included a number of WWII veterans, and their “can do attitude” made the project a great success and honor to be a part of. This memorial was dedicated to all the casualties of Maryland, who perished in WWII.
The memorial site is located on Route 450, overlooking the Naval Academy. The design calls for a series of stone-clad columns which straddle large upright tablets, displaying over 6,000 names of casualties from Maryland. Rugo was instrumental in offering design savings suggestions for material types and methods of engraving.
The project included custom sandblasted developed globes for both the Atlantic and Pacific theatres. The granite elements and their engraving is a lasting memory to these brave men and women who gave their lives in defense of freedom. The project Architect, Secundino Fernandez proved to be a world class designer, and remains friend to this day.
