This limestone clad office building, built in the 1950s, has been designed for a full renovation. Under the new design of Boggs & Partners, the facade renovation called for the removal of hundreds of limestone panels. These panels would accommodate the new design’s use of curtain wall elements at four different locations. The original facades of 4″ limestone and granite at these four large areas were removed and sent to Rugo’s stone shop for fabrication repair.
Rugo carefully dismantled, cataloged, and trucked the panels to our stone fabrication shop, where we fabricated them into new sizes for re-installation on both the exterior and the interior building facades. Once they were re-cut, cleaned, and restored, the panels were moved back to the project for re-installation. Rugo also performed the remaining limestone and granite facade cleaning (approx 60,000sqft), re-pointing and re-caulking all the joints for the remaining granite and limestone, this is approx. 20,000 sq ft of joint. This project also involved an extensive amount of flashing and Blue Skin to vent the cavity water properly.
In addition to all the restoration and cleaning, Rugo furnished and installed an entire new marble and granite lobby and site work scope. Rugo took a great deal of pride in the renovation of the landmark building, which resides in the heart of Washington, DC.
