Custom Interior Stonework Project
Smith Residence

This unique residential project is a 2 story, 5,500 sq. ft condominium located in the Ritz Carlton residences in the Georgetown neighborhood of Washington, DC. This project consists of over 9,000 square feet of highly detailed limestone, marble, and onyx throughout.

The Smith Residence required 7 months to fabricate and 6 months to install. The designer is an acclaimed, modernist designer from New York, specializing in precise alignments. Each room has a custom-designed paving pattern based on the room size since this was not a typical project with standard sizes. The project required custom detailed shop drawings, exhaustive field measuring, and a combination of local and Italian fabrication.

The entire home is paved in 2cm limestone, marble, and onyx. The base, door surrounds, and portals are cased with custom profiled Gohare beige limestone moldings. There are no wood baseboards or wood door cases––the entire casement is detailed in custom profiled limestone and marble. The home also has an internal elliptical spiral stair that features stone treads and risers, a ramp, and twisted stone stringer and rail caps.

The bathrooms are paved in white onyx mosaic, and bathroom counters and tub decks in the baths are Thassos White Extra marble. The powder room is unique in that it has a solid dome of Gohare beige limestone to create the ceiling.

The kitchen is paved in a custom three-color epoxy terrazzo, and the counters are all first choice Calacatta Sponda 3cm marble.

The project is notable for its clean, minimal detailing, which creates a soothing modern environment for this well-known homeowner.
